Normally, This chimney rebuild was unique in that the damage to the chimney was strictly limited to the area above the roofline and chimney flashing. Normally and Seattle chimney rebuild project would need to be torn down below the roofline, have a bond beam poured, and then rebuild the chimney using the new earthquake code rebar reinforced masonry construction. The chimney was in excellent shape below the roofline and the amount that needed to rebuild was right on the cusp of the required update. Also, the historical brick and brick pattern that was used was gorgeous, and the bricks had been discontinued so we had to reuse the corner accent pieces. This would not have been possible with the new construction codes.
